How to Remove ‘Ask Copilot’ from the Windows 11 Context Menu

To drive Copilot AI adoption on Windows 11, Microsoft is integrating its AI tool in nearly all UI elements, from the Taskbar to system apps, and now, the context menu. Following the latest Copilot update, right-clicking on an image or document (DOCX, PDF, TXT) in Windows 11, shows a new “Ask Copilot” menu.

Clicking on it takes you to the Copilot app with the document automatically uploaded to the chat bar. You can now ask questions from the document/image, generate an explanation, or summarize it. This new Copilot addition to the context menu is part of Microsoft’s broader push towards embracing AI on Windows 11.

Microsoft recently announced several new features for Windows 11 including a revamped Start menu, an AI agent for Windows 11, and a boatload of AI features.

Remove ‘Ask Copilot’ From Windows 11 Context Menu

The new ‘Ask Copilot’ menu appears on Windows 11 if you have updated the Copilot app to version 1.25044.93.0 or later. You can either uninstall the Copilot app entirely to remove the context menu entry or change the Registry setting to block the Copilot menu. Here are the steps to follow.

• Open Notepad and paste the Registry configuration mentioned below.

• Now, save the Notepad file as “copilot.reg”.

• After that, double-click on the “copilot.reg” file and grant the permissions.

• Now, the ‘Ask Copilot’ menu should disappear from the Windows 11 context menu.
• If the changes have not been applied, restart Windows Explorer from the Task Manager or simply reboot your PC.
